Shawn Babendure

District Chief – Volunteers

Since Shawn first pushed his Tonka firetruck down the sidewalk as a toddler, he has wanted to be a firefighter. Born and raised in Houston, Shawn got his first taste of the fire service when he joined the Champions Fire Department in 1990. At the time, he was a senior at Cypress Creek High School. After many years removed from the fire service, Shawn moved to Spring where his passion for firefighting was reignited. While at the Spring Fire Department, Shawn has served as a firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, Senior Captain and now as a District Chief.

Shawn earned FF1 and FF2 certifications from the State Firefighter and Fire Marshall Association, Firefighter Basic through the Texas Commission of Fire Protection and obtained his Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B). Shawn attended the University of Houston and still enthusiastically supports the Cougar football team. He also spent four years as a U.S. Army Cavalry Trooper. When he’s not putting out fires, Shawn is First Vice President of Wealth Management for a global wealth management firm.

Shawn resides in Spring with his wonderful wife Jessica, beautiful daughter Sophia, and daredevil son Harrison. When there is no emergency to respond to, Shawn likes to cook for his colleagues and says most of his favorite fire station memories involve food. It is no wonder that Shawn, or “Chief Babs” as he in known in the fire station, understands that firefighters are always hungry.

While he says his best firefighting skill is knocking in doors, Shawn’s hobbies include fishing, travelling and playing Heavy Metal music on the guitar.
