Training Sharpens Rescue Team Skills

By Training Captain Greg Monroe

The Spring Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team spent the last two weeks sharpening their skills.

Team members worked on technical rescue operations working in confined spaces and high-angle rope rescue environments.

The rescue team is comprised of members from all three shifts currently stationed at fire station 71 and they are constantly preparing for the needs of the district.

A big thank you to Roco Rescue for 12 days of great training and to the Ponderosa Fire Department for the use of their facilities.

2020 will be a busy year as the Spring Fire Department works to certify our firefighters in Swift Water Rescue, Flood Boat Rescue and other rescue disciplines.

Captain Greg Monroe started his firefighting career at 19 years old. After nearly two decades of service to Travis County ESD #2, then Lieutenant Monroe moved to the Houston area where he spent two years with Harris County ESD #48. Monroe has an extreme passion for training because it improves everyone’s performance on the fire ground.
