Full-Time Firefighters

After nearly 16 years of part-time firefighters working with our volunteer firefighters, we began by hiring 8 full-time firefighters in April, 2013 and now have 96 full-time firefighters, Apparatus Operators, Captains, and Shift Commanders.  They are staffing with part-time and volunteer firefighters at all 9 fire stations since August 2019.

Full-time Firefighters

We have a very competitive salary and benefits package that separate us from other departments in our region.  Our goal is to hire the best candidates based on their desire to fulfill our minimum requirements.

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements:
  • 19 years old by deadline of job posting
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic certification Structural Fire Suppression from Texas Commission on Fire Protection
  • Emergency Medical Technician certification from Texas Department of State Health Services
  • Valid Texas driver’s license
Testing Components:
  1. Physical Ability Test (Watch Video)
  2. Oral interview with panel
  3. Final interview with Chiefs

* Each component must be successfully completed to move on to the next component.

Annual Full-time Compensation:
  • Entry Level – $58,864
  • Firefighter 1 – $61,226
  • Firefighter 2 – $64,284
  • Firefighter 3 – $66,858
Benefits:

  • Texas County District Retirement System – 7% mandatory employee contribution, 2.5 to 1 department match upon retirement
Schedule:
  • 3 shift rotation.  48 hours straight on duty, 96 hours off duty
