(Spring, Texas) The Spring Fire Department (SFD) proudly welcomes Kevin J. Alexander, Jr. as the department’s first District Chief of Professional Development. Chief Alexander brings over 30 years of distinguished service with the Houston Fire Department (HFD), the nation’s fourth largest fire department.
Chief Alexander’s extensive background in fire operations, leadership and training management are essential to SFD’s professional development initiatives. His prior service includes roles as Assistant Fire Chief of Professional Development, the Assistant Chief of Logistics, District Chief and Recruit Training Coordinator at Houston’s Val Jahnke Training Academy.
During his tenure at HFD, Alexander directed large-scale training operations, supervised instructor teams, managed multimillion-dollar budgets and introduced innovative training platforms such as online EMT courses and simulation-based command training.
“Chief Alexander has a proven record of advancing firefighter education and leadership development,” said Jeffery L. King, Deputy Chief of Health, Safety, and Professional Development with the Spring Fire Department. “His combination of operational experience and commitment to cultivating excellence in others makes him an outstanding addition to our leadership team.”
Throughout his career, Chief Alexander has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to safety, mentorship, and the professional growth of firefighters. He earned the Dennis Elkins Memorial Medal for his contributions to training innovation and safety advancement. His professional credentials include Fire Officer IV, Master Fire Instructor III, Incident Safety Officer and Master Firefighter through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. Additionally, Alexander holds numerous certifications from FEMA, TEEX and Blue Card Command Training programs.
In his new role, Chief Alexander will oversee the design, implementation and evaluation of SFD’s comprehensive training and leadership programs. His vision focuses on operational effectiveness, mentorship and the integration of technology-based learning systems to meet the current and future demands of the fire service.
