Part-Time Firefighters

We began employing Part-time Firefighters in 1997 to assist Volunteer firefighters in providing the citizens of Spring, TX with fire suppression, EMS first responder, and rescue services.

when are you hiring next?

Currently there are no plans to hire additional part-time firefighters in 2020.  Please check back here, on Social Media and the Jobs section of the Texas Commission on Fire Protection website for our next job posting.

what’s the process?

We require our Part-time Firefighters to go through the same rigorous process as our Full-time Firefighters which maintains continuity as we continue to grow our staff.  Once the job posting occurs you must fill out the online application and follow the rest of the instructions provided in the section below.

We require our part-time firefighters to test to the same standards as full-time firefighters.  Our goal is to hire the best applicants based on their desire to meet our minimum requirements.

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements:
  • 19 years old by deadline of job posting
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic certification Structural Fire Suppression from Texas Commission on Fire Protection
  • Emergency Medical Technician certification from Texas Department of State Health Services
  • Valid Texas driver’s license
Testing Components:
  • Written Exam (See formal job posting for study material)
  • Physical Ability Test (Watch Video)
  • Oral interview

* Each component must be successfully completed to move on to the next component.  Minimum score of 70 must be obtained on written exam.

  • $14.00 per hour
  • Pay increases given upon completion of phase training and achieving driver status.  Phase training can be accelerated for applicants with experience.  Part-time firefighters can make up to $22.00 per hour depending on years of service and education/certifications.
  • Retirement with 2:1 match up to 7% employee contribution, 14% department
  • 12-hour or 24-hour shifts available; various days to include nights and weekends.
